Wrap Skirt Dressmaking Pattern | Guest Designer Julia Hincks
Easy |
Quick Links: What you'll need Project steps
Get started with dressmaking with this amazing wrap skirt design by guest designer Julia Hincks.
The skirt can be made from a variety of light to medium weight fabrics. Cotton lawn or lightweight denim will give a summery feel to the skirt. Cotton poplin or lightweight linen will add more structure and crispness to the garment. Viscose and viscose blends will give more weight and drape but can be more difficult to sew. Choose a medium weight denim or corduroy for a heavier, warmer skirt. Don’t choose anything that is too thick as it will be difficult to create the long ties at the waist.
Fabric choices: I have used Washed 100% Linen in Cobalt and Magenta from Fabric Godmother but you could use cotton lawn, cotton poplin, linen, cotton / linen blends, viscose / linen blends, viscose challis, viscose twill, lightweight or medium weight denim (4oz – 9oz), chambray, needlecord, medium weight 8 – 12 wale corduroy.Skills used

Sewing instructions
Measure yourself for the pattern using our guide. Once you’ve cut out all the pattern pieces, you’ll need to transfer the markings for the notches and the darts. You will find notches at the hip line on the side seam and at the top of the side seam on both skirt front and skirt back pieces. Cut a tiny snip (6mm/¼in) into the top of the centre back of the skirt piece to align with the centre of the tie. To transfer the markings for the darts, transfer only the dart marking for your size. Make a tiny snip (6mm/¼in) into each of the dart legs at the wide end of the dart. Use a tailor’s tack to transfer the tip of the dart marking to the fabric. Note: For lightweight fabrics apply a 2cm (¾in) strip of interfacing to the wrong side of each of the front edges to add more structure Click on the instructions button at the top of this page to see measurements and sizes, cutting layouts and extra pattern notes. The Templates
