Traditional Waistband | Jenniffer Taylor | Photo Tutorial
In this photo tutorial, author Jenniffer Taylor walks you through how to create a traditional waistband step by step. It’s a technique that works beautifully across all kinds of skirt styles – whether you’re sewing pleats, gathers, darts, or keeping things simple.
The traditional waistband is a quick way of finishing off the raw top edge professionally. The waistband is normally one of the last details to be added and may or may not come with a tab. Here, Jenniffer has used it on a skirt with a centre-back seam. She explains: "I always use interfacing to add body to the waistband by fusing or tacking/basting it to the wrong side of the fabric before construction. Interfacing gives structure and will stop the waistband from rolling or creasing."
This tutorial has been extracted from Your Skirt, Your Way by Jenniffer Taylor. In this title, Jenniffer will show you how to design and sew your own gorgeous, unique skirts, with no need for shop-bought patterns. Start by creating your own block and toile using just four body measurements. Then select your skirt shape, add the fittings, fastenings and details you want, and put the whole thing together with ease.
