  Hi Debbie and Team Just wanted to say how much my sister liked the kimono jacket I made her from the February sewing project. I used the Chinese cherry blossom fabric from Debbie's shop and as I couldn't source another toning fabric to use to make it reversible I just used some polyester plain fabric and used that as a lining instead. It does look stunning but as it was my first attempt there are some imperfections that I think I've managed to disguise. Oh and a sewing machine which doesn't like lidl threads. Couldn't get guttermans' thread because of lockdown but tried Korbond thread which I managed to get from Tescos of all places on my weekly shop there and it sewed beautifully through my machine. Goes to show never judge a book by its cover. Im thinking Korbond have some rather good quality products reasonably priced. Thanks Debbie

I needed to know how to finish off my neck facings for the collared box top as they were looking a bit loose and lumpy - thank you so much Debbie I found exactly what I needed in the tips section for dressmaking stitching techniques - ?under stitching? -yes! I knew there was a technique I?d heard of before. Having a video there too was brilliant. The other tips were very useful too. On the odd occasion when I?d tried using a purchased pattern I always dreaded having to ?set in a sleeve? and ended up with proper gathers and puckers! Your video actually explained what ?easing? was and how to avoid the gathers. Thank you so much.

  Hi, I?ve had a slight disaster today while making the weekend bag. I was glueing the handles on using gutermann fabric glue and dribbled some, which I then rather foolishly tried to wipe off (if I?d left it it would have been easy to pick off when dry), causing a fine smear. Any suggestions as to how I can remove this. It?s a red canvas so I?m a bit reluctant to use any liquids in case it damages the material further.

  Hi Debbie, I tried to make the box top, but when using the 8" size sleeve the under arm to neck fabric wanted to pleat. I tried the April project and the 6 .5" sleeve was to tight. I obviously need 8" and wonder if I am drawing the under arm angle incorrectly. You can't make it any clearly, but I do not know how to use a French curve. Is the cotton sheet toile I'm using stopping the sleeve to hang correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks x

  Hi Debbie and fellow members, I'm making the messenger bag using faux leather and want a quality topstitch look around the top opening of the bag and around the bag flap. I'm using Gutermann Topstitch thread in my top thread and Gutermann general purpose thread in the bobbin and it's not a good result. The stitches from bobbin side look like a birds nest and the top thread has missed stitches and stitches of varying length (I'm using a 3.5mm stitch for topstitching). I've tried all sorts such as reducing the top thread tension, I've bought topstitch needles but still no luck. I have a Brother sewing machine only 2 yrs old and I'm an experienced sewer. Any tips to help?

  I think its a demin type needle Don't use a leather type needle as it can leave small puncture holes. I also use a teflon presser foot which glides across the fabric nicely

  HiJulie I would use interfacing on a faux leather bag and if you use H640 it will stick to the faux leather well. I have made a bag with faux leather and it can be a bit floppy if you don?t use interfacing, also use a good stabilizer for the base if the base is faux leather.l hope that this helps
